Healthy Workstations Are The Best Productivity Tool

Have you ever heard of healthy workstations? If you haven’t, it’s about the time you do.
Whether you work in the office of a large company, or you’ve decided to work from home and become your own boss. Your number one priority will always be to perform to the best of your abilities. In the work-related arena, this can mean hitting your targets, bringing in new sales, or even finally gaining that promotion you’ve been working so hard towards. Fortunately there are certain factors which we can consider, in order to produce our best work and help us along the way.

Issues affecting productivity

  • They say that healthy workstations will be productive ones.
  • We might further divide this into your mental health, physical health and the general condition of your workplace. Let’s first consider our own health.
  • Newspapers and the television are both plastered with warnings about the dangers of neglecting exercise and a balanced diet. And many of us may have even lost a loved one through a lack of one of these.
  • If you get into bad habits, you could develop diabetes, depression, or even dementia. But just as we can become physically ill, so too can our mental wellbeing be affected by improper exercise and diet.

Healthy Workstations Require Some Changes

Going out for a run or playing football with your children will increase the flow of oxygenated blood to the brain, maintaining its healthy state and encouraging alertness. Similarly, the foods we eat will have an enormous impact on our brain functioning.

If you’re serious about healthy workstations, you’ll need to eat the right things at the right times. Avoid fatty or sugary foods, which could leave you lethargic or burnt out. Instead, you should focus on foods containing complex carbohydrates, like wholegrain bread and cereal, pasta or rice, and fruit. Foods like nuts or fish, which are high in Omega-3 fatty acids, will also improve your focus by encouraging the development of grey matter and cell membranes.

You’ll also want to make sure you eat at the right times. A good breakfast is essential for us if we’re to maintain productive and healthy workstations, so ensure that you aren’t neglecting this most important of meals – especially if you face a rushed commute into work each morning.

Once we’ve dealt with our mental wellbeing, the next step towards healthy workstations is for us to ensure they’re kept tidy and organised. Excessive clutter can not only cause delays and lost files, it’s also likely to make you confused and lacking in concentration. Our physical environment can have a significant influence on our productivity, so it’s essential to maintain tidy, and therefore healthy, workstations – particularly if you work from home.

A third and final issue to consider is your ability to plan and organise. You’ll often be faced with a number of tasks to complete simultaneously, so it’s important to plan your day or week ahead. Different jobs will require more or less time, and some may require external input. If you want to enjoy the benefits provided by productive and healthy workstations, you’ll need to keep track of your duties and ensure no time is wasted or deadlines missed. By following the above advice, you’ll soon be working to the best of your ability and feeling better within yourself.

So, do you believe in the benefits we can gain from healthy workstations? Is there anything else which you think contributes to a productive and enjoyable day at work?
